The Aliens Have Landed!
On Tuesday the children were shocked when they discovered that a spaceship had crash landed in the playground! The children enjoyed investigating the crash scene.
After our Morrisons trip, we were kindly given different fruits to take back to school to taste. Lots of the children were able to taste coconut for the first time.
Last Gymnastics Lesson with Sporty Stars
The children have really enjoyed their gymnastics lessons with Sporty Stars this half term.
Fabulous Farming Home Learning
Year 2 have been working really hard on their Fabulous Farming home learning challenges. Well done Year 2!
The Day the Crayons Quit
We have had lots of fun reading The Day the Crayons Quit by Drew Daywalt this week. However, as we were about to launch our new class book, Year 2 came across a big problem! The children came into class to discover that all the chairs had disappeared! They found a letter from the chairs explaining that they had quit and the chairs had also left angry messages all over the classroom walls and windows! The children were very eager to go on a hunt for the chairs around the school. They then replied to the letter from the chairs and tried to persuade them to come back.
Last Forest School Lesson
The children have really enjoyed their forest school lessons this half term. For their last forest school they had lots of fun creating mud paintings, making swings and trying to throw mud balls at the target board. At the end they enjoyed making some delicious smores. They melted marshmallows on the fire and then squeezed it between two chocolate biscuits!

KS1 Chinese New Year Morning
Today we worked with Year 1 to celebrate and learn about Chinese New Year. We listened to the story of Chinese New Year and learnt about how it is celebrated across the world. We had lots of fun making Chinese lanterns, masks and dragons. We also had a go at writing in Chinese which some of us found very tricky! We all went home with a special, red good luck envelope.
To promote reading at home, Year 2 have had a reading competition this half term. We have checked each child's reading record every Friday and if they have read to an adult at home three times or more in a week, they have been given a special reading raffle ticket. This ticket was put in the reading jar and at the end of the half term three tickets were picked out in the draw. Well done to these children who received their reading prize!
Home Learning Certificates
Year 2 have been working really hard on their Sensational Safari home learning challenges this half term. Well done to these children who all received a home learning certificate for completing more than 20 stars!
During this week's forest lesson we went on a treasure hunt to see if we could find the hidden treasure chest. We also learnt how to light a fire safely and then we all toasted marshmallows.
The children came to school wearing numbers today for Number Day. They had lots of fun playing number games and going on a number treasure hunt.
Safari Home Learning
Year 2 have been working so hard on their safari home learning challenges. Well done Year 2!
Today in Science we investigated which material should be used to make the best umbrella.
Today Key Stage One were very lucky as two Tiverton High School pupils came in to talk to us about their trip to Kenya. We found out lots of different interesting facts and we asked them lots of great questions.
In Maths we have been learning about patterns. This group of children have been ordering the teddies to make a pattern.
Children in Need 2017
Well done to all of the children who came into school wearing spots to raise money for Children in Need.
We had an exciting superhero day to launch our new Key Stage 1 topic. The children enjoyed dressing up as their favourite superhero and taking part in the different superhero activities throughout the day.
2D Shape Hunt
This week the children have been learning about 2D shapes in Maths. Today the children went on a 2D shape hunt to see what shapes they could find around the school. What 2D shapes have the children found in these pictures?
This week the children made their own 'Marvellous Medicines' using ingredients such as orange juice, sugar, ketchup and blackcurrant squash. They made sure that they used bossy commands to tell their partner what to add next.
In English we have been learning about instructions. This week the children worked together to read and follow the instructions. They followed the steps in order and made delicious jam sandwiches.
Home Learning Certificates
Year 2 have been working really hard on their Healthy Humans home learning challenges this half term. Well done to these children who all got a home learning certificate for completing more than 20 stars!
Today Year 2 had a visit from the fire brigade who came in to talk to the children about fire safety.
The Wedding Feast at Cana
Today in RE the children worked together to retell the story of the Wedding at Cana.
In Art we have been exploring the work of Jackson Pollock. The children enjoyed looking at the famous artist's work and went on to create their own drip paintings.
CHAT Big Sleep Out
On Thursday, the children's teddies had a sleepover in the classroom to raise money for CHAT.
Healthy Humans Home Learning
Wow, Year 2 have been working so hard on their Healthy Human home learning challenges! Here are some photographs of the fantastic work they've been doing at home.
This week we tasted different breads, fillings and sauces to see which ones we wanted to use. Afterwards, we designed and made our own sandwiches. We learnt how to prepare our food safely and hygienically. We enjoyed eating our sandwiches at the end of the afternoon.
KS1 Exmouth Beach Trip
As part of the Key Stage 1 seaside topic, Years 1 and 2 went on a trip to Exmouth beach. The children had a brilliant day and enjoyed meeting the lifeguards and learning about beach safety, having a tour around the RNLI station, creating beach art and paddling in the sea.
In Maths Year 2 have been learning about measurement. This week some of the children went outside to measure potions.
Environment Explorers Home Learning

Andy Goldsworthy Art
In Art we have been exploring the work of Andy Goldsworthy. The children enjoyed looking at the famous artist's work and went on to create their own land art sculptures with natural materials.

This afternoon we have been planting sunflower seeds. The children are all looking forward to measuring the growth.
Environment Explorers Home Learning
Year 2 have been working hard already on their new home learning challenges. We are looking forward to seeing more of their brilliant work that they've been doing at home.
'Environment Explorer' Afternoon
On Friday afternoon we launched our new topic 'Environment Explorers.' The children planned what they would like to find out during the topic. Then they went outside and they had a go at being environment explorers, hunting for different plants and mini beasts in the school grounds.
Tiverton Castle Trip
To finish the 'Castles and Royalty' topic, Year 2 went on a trip to Tiverton Castle. The children were given a tour of the castle and grounds. They learnt about the different features of the castle and about the people that used to live there. They really enjoyed looking at the arms and armour, especially when they got to try on some of the armour. Afterwards the children sat in the gardens and drew different parts of the castle.
Designing and Making Castles
This week the children worked together to design and create model castles.
Palm Sunday Assembly
Year 2 and Big Acorns led the first assembly in Holy Week. The children all worked together to share the story of Palm Sunday through reading, acting and singing. Thank you to the families that came along today.

Castles and Royalty Home Learning
Year 2 have been working hard on their new home learning challenges. Well done Year 2!
World Book Day
Key Stage 1 had a brilliant day celebrating World Book Day on Friday. The children all dressed up as their favourite book characters. Parents and some of the Year 6's came in to enjoy different books with the children in the morning. Year 1 and Year 2 then went to watch a performance of Alice in Wonderland at The Tiverton Community Arts Theatre.
'Castles and Royalty' Afternoon
This afternoon we launched our new Key Stage 1 topic 'Castles and Royalty.' The children came in dressed as kings, queens, princesses, princes, knights and servants. They all looked fantastic! Year 1 and Year 2 then worked together to design shields, make crowns and build castles.
In Art Year 2 have been exploring the work of Piet Mondrian. Here are some of the children's collages that they created using primary colours.
We're Going on an Array Hunt!
This week in Maths Year 2 have been learning about multiplication and division. They have been using arrays to help them with this. Some of the children went on an array hunt to see where they could find arrays around the school. Other children went outside to make arrays using objects such as pebbles, shells and sticks.
Our Year 5 Reading Buddies
Every Monday afternoon the children enjoy meeting with their Year 5 reading buddies to share their books with them. The children make sure that they ask them lots of questions to check that they are listening! They love listening to the Year 5's fantastic reading too.
Year 2 Class Assembly
Year 2 have been busy learning all about the Arctic. Today the children enjoyed sharing their learning with the whole school during the Year 2 class assembly. They were able to share lots of facts, songs and their lovely art work. Well done to all the children, you were all brilliant! After our assembly the children enjoyed looking through their books with their families. Thank you to everyone that came along today. It was great to see so many of you there. We hope you enjoyed it!
