Welcome back and welcome to Year Two. I hope you all had a fantastic summer break and are ready for an exciting first term.
I will be teaching the class every day and Mrs Al-Sadoon will be teaching the class on a Tuesday afternoon. Mrs Fullick will be working in Year 2 every day and Mrs Scampton will be working in Year 2 on a Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
This half term our learning will focus around the theme ‘Healthy Humans.’ You can find a curriculum overview which shows you what we will be covering in our learning on our Year 2 page.
For our PE this half term, we will be going swimming every Thursday. Please make sure that your child has a named PE kit in school at all times as this will be needed for other lessons.
In Key Stage 1 we will be continuing with the home learning challenge. There are lots of different home learning activities for the children to choose from in their home learning book. They can choose whatever activity they like each week. When they have created an activity, they can cross out the box and colour in the correct number of stars.
MUST complete the grey boxes
SHOULD aim to earn 20 stars by half term
COULD earn more than 20 stars by half term
If any of the children manage to earn more than 20 stars by Wednesday 18th October, they will receive a special home learning certificate. Please remind the children that home learning books/completed challenges should be handed in every Wednesday.
This half term’s spellings will be displayed in the children’s spelling books. The children will have ten spellings to learn each week. They will be tested on these ten spellings and five random spellings from previous weeks. This is to encourage the children to continue to revise previous spellings. Please encourage your child to practice the spellings every week using the spelling ideas in their home learning folder. The spelling test will be on a Friday.
Please continue to listen to your child read regularly and record this in their reading diary. The children should be reading to someone every day for 5 – 10 minutes. It is important that they have the opportunity to talk about the book that they are reading.
We are keen to hear from anybody who has some spare time to hear children read during the school day. This can be for as little as 10 minutes at the start of the school day. Any time you have to offer is always greatly appreciated.
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to come and see me. Additionally, messages can be left on the class DoJo and I can be emailed at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Your support is very much appreciated and I look forward to working with you and your child.
