Year 2

Welcome to Year 2!

June 2017

Dear Parents/Carers,

I hope you had a brilliant half term. We had a very busy start to the Summer term. The children all worked so hard during their SATs tests. We are very proud of them all and are looking forward to an exciting half term.

Curriculum Overview

This half term our learning will focus around the theme ‘Oh I do like to be beside the seaside!’ Please find a curriculum overview on our class page which shows you what we will be covering in our learning.

Physical Education

PE will continue to take place on Tuesdays and Fridays. Please make sure that your child has a named kit in school at all times.

Home Learning

In Key Stage 1 we will be continuing with the home learning challenge. There are lots of different home learning activities to choose from in the home learning book. The children can choose whatever activity they like each week. When they have created an activity, they can cross out the box and colour in the correct number of stars.

The children:

MUST complete the grey boxes

SHOULD aim to earn 20 stars by half term

COULD earn more than 20 stars by half term

If any of the children manage to earn more than 20 stars by Wednesday 19th July, they will receive a special home learning certificate. Please remind the children that home learning books/completed challenges should be handed in every Wednesday.

The spellings will continue to be displayed at the back of the home learning books. If the children have spelt all fifteen words correctly in the spelling test, the words will be highlighted and they will then move onto the next spelling level. They will then be tested on the next fifteen words on a Friday. Please continue to encourage your child to practice the fifteen spellings every week using the spelling ideas in their home learning folder.

Please continue to listen to your child read regularly and record this in their reading diary. The children should be reading to someone every day for 5 – 10 minutes. It is important that they have the opportunity to talk about the book that they are reading.

We are keen to hear from anybody who has some spare time to hear children read during the school day. This can be for as little as 10 minutes at the start of the school day. Any time you have to offer is always greatly appreciated. Thank you to the parents and grandparents that came in to listen to the children read last half term.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to come and see me. Additionally, I can be emailed at or you can send me a message on the Class Dojo

Thank you for your ongoing support.

Yours sincerely,

Miss Downing
