Hello and welcome to Maple Class!
As mathematicians, Year 1 will focus on multiplication and division; halves and qurters and position and direction. Year 2 will begin work on position and direction then moving onto problem solving and choosing efficient methods through our Power Maths scheme. We also practice our arithmetic skills daily through 'Fluent in Five', you can help with this at home by encouraging your child to practice their times-tables on ttrockstars.com.
This term, Miss Leach and Mrs Yeandle's English group will focus their learning around the book Fatou, Fetch the Water. Mrs Muchmore and Mrs Pearce's groups will continue to learn phonics with Fred Frog and practice writing skills through different story books as part of Read, Write Inc.
This term we are back to being geographers to explore the topic 'Animals and Their Habitats'. In this unit, a geographical context will be given to children’s interests in, and prior knowledge of, animals through a study of five continents. It looks at pandas, penguins, sharks and elephants, as well as lesser-known birds, such as the swallow
As scientists, children will go on a safari to explore invertebrates and other plants and animals in the local area.
In RE, we will begin by finishing our learning around Easter. We will then complete a unit on 'Holidays and Holydays' where we will explore the ascension and Pentecost.
In art the children will follow the whole school art focus for this half term- The Platinum Jubilee. We cannot wait to welcome you to view the children's amazing artwork at the gallery event on May 26th!
In PSHE our module is “Created to love others”. We will look at how we are created as loving beings and how we can take this into our family, friendships and relationships. We will look at strategies for developing healthy relationships and keeping safe.
