Maple

Hello and welcome to Maple Class!

We are excited to be back and looking forward to the festivities that this term brings!

As mathematicians, Year 1 will focus on addition and subtraction along with 2D and 3D shape. Year 2 will continue their work on addition and subtraction then move onto money and multiplication through our Power Maths scheme. We will continue to learn our phonics with Fred Frog and practice our writing skills through different story books.

This term we will be transforming into historians to investigate the topic 'My Family History' where we will be comparing our own lives with those of our grandparents. As scientists we will be getting festive and investigating light, foods and sound through our 'Celebrations' topic. In RE, our focus will be 'Preparation' where we will learn all about Baptism- if you have any photos of your child being baptised we would love to see them! As musicians, we will focus on learning about pulse through the reggae song Rhythm in the Way we Walk and, of course, we will be learning our Christmas songs! In PSHE this term we are focusing on relationship and health education.  Our first module is: Created and Loved by God and explores the individual. Rooted in the teaching that we are created by God out of love and for love. It helps children to develop an understanding of the importance of valuing themselves as the basis for personal relationships.

In art we are looking at formal elements of art.  We are exploring shape, line and colour: mixing and painting with secondary colours, using circles to create abstract compositions and working collaboratively to create a class piece of art inspired by water. In D & T we are exploring food and a balanced diet.  Through their exploration of what makes a balanced diet, children taste test food combinations of different food groups. They will also aim to make a wrap that includes a healthy mix of protein, vegetables and dairy, and learn about the term ‘hidden sugars’.

Please come back soon to see what we’ve been up to!
