Sycamore
Welcome to the Summer Term in Sycamore Class
Sycamore Class is a mixture of children from Year 4 and Year 5 who learn together first thing in the morning and every afternoon.
In the mornings we start the day with mental maths or quiet reading, followed by a short time of prayer before we split into separate year groups for Maths, English, Science and RE.

Our afternoons are spent exploring the wider curriculum:
In Geography we will be studying volcanoes and earthquakes, learning about the structure of the Earth and tectonic plates. We will be discovering how volcanoes are formed and where in the world most volcanoes and earthquakes are found we will also be finding out about their deadly effects. Our history topic will be Crime and Punishment, looking at how crime and punishment has changed throughout British history. We will find out about highwaymen and smugglers, as well as the establishment of the first police force. We will also learn about how prisoners were transported to different countries and the activism of the suffragettes.
Our PE lessons this term will be outdoor education and athletics for the first half of term. After half term we will be developing our skills with rounders and tennis.
In computing lessons, we will continue to focus on E Safety alongside learning some coding skills.
For the first half of term, our focus in art will be preparing for our Jubilee Art Exhibition, we will be using binca fabric to create individual cross stitch designs and making a whole class piece of artwork in the style of Andy Warhol. After half term the children will be given a product name and set about designing and advertising a product that fits the brief.
In music this term we will be use our listening, singing and instrumental skills to learn and play along with 'Fresh Prince of Bel Air' and 'Dancing in the Street'.
In Spanish we will be learning all about icecream.
We will also continue to work on our times tables and spellings (Year 3/4 or Year 5/6 statutory word lists as appropriate) and explore a wide variety of texts in our guided reading sessions.
