Sycamore

Welcome to Sycamore Class.

Sycamore Class is a mixture of children from Year 4 and Year 5 who learn together first thing in the morning and every afternoon.

In the mornings we start the day with mental maths or quiet reading, followed by a short time of prayer before we split into separate year groups for Maths, English, Science and RE.

Our afternoons are spent exploring the wider curriculum:

In Geography we will be learning about The Americas, looking at different cities throughout North and South America and comparing and contrasting them. We will then travel across America following Route 66. Our history topic will be Ancient Egypt finding out about the daily lives of Ancient Egyptians, their customs and artefacts they left behind.

Our PE lessons this term will include yoga, dance, gymnastics and invasion games. We are very lucky to have specialist PE teachers visiting school to support the children in their learning. We will also be finding out how to keep ourselves healthy in Funtrition.

In computing lessons, we will first learn about E Safety and how to be safe online, we will then explore vector drawings, using lines and shapes to create our own images.

Our focus in art will be on the artist Hundertwasser, exploring his use of shape and colour in architecture. We will use our observational skills to draw buildings and then designing our own houses in the style of Hundertwasser. In DT we will be looking at pop up mechanisms and creating our own pop up card.

Music this term will see our Year 4 children learning to play the PBone (as Year 5 did last year). We will also be working as a whole class to prepare for our Christmas Celebration.

We will also spend time working on our times tables and spellings (Year 3/4 or Year 5/6 statutory word lists as appropriate) and exploring a wide variety of texts in our guided reading sessions.
