Year 1 and Year 2

Dear Parents/Carers,

Welcome back to school, after what we hope was the final lock down! If you are not on the class DoJo, please join as soon as possible and check for messages regularly as this is my main method of communicating important information to you during term time (please ask me if you require a log in).

Staffing

Miss Leach will be teaching the class Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday with Mrs Yeandle teaching on a Thursday and Friday. Other adults working in our class at throughout the week are Mrs Muchmore, Mrs Eva, Mrs Pearce and Mrs Hill.

Curriculum overview

The curriculum overview for the summer term is on the class page on the school website.

Toys

Please do not send your child to school with toys or anything else from home that is not essential. This is to limit contamination between home and school.

Physical Education

Our class will have PE on a Wednesday afternoon and a Thursday afternoon. On these days your child must come to school in their PE kit.

Home work/spellings

Homework will be sent via Dojo each Wednesday afternoon, it will consist of 2 IXL tasks that will focus on the recall of the previous weeks' learning. If your child is part of the No Nonsense Spelling group they will be provided with weekly spelling to learn which will run alongside the spelling teaching happening in school. If your child is part of the Read, Write, Inc programme homework will be focused around the book that is bought home each week.

Reading

Reading is a very important skill for all children and especially so in KS1 as it can impact on learning in future years. As such, your child needs to read for a minimum of 10 minutes daily at home to an adult. Listening to stories is also proven to have a massive impact on children’s vocabulary development which then has a positive impact on their writing, so do share stories together with your child and have a chat about their favourite parts. Children on Accelerated Reader need to be quizzing at least once a week.

 Uniform

We politely request that all of your child’s school uniform and other belongings are clearly named (including ties) as they are easily misplaced.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us and we can call you after school. Additionally, messages can be left on the class DoJo. Please send any messages in the morning via Dojo as we are busy supporting the class from 8:30.

Yours sincerely,

Year 1 Team :)
